Some desire is necessary to keep life in motion, and he whose real wants are supplied must admit those of fancy - Samuel Johnson
Not so long ago you could import these into the UK in kit form - a jiffy-bag of parts. Brought to your door by the posty. Nicely wrapped they made a welcome Christmas pressy. The legality of import was uncertain but in those days customs seldom picked them up. BTW - not me.
Roger - crikey I didn't know that. I wonder how many there are in circulation?
Probably not all that many. Mainly for gun clubs who were supposed to hand them in later on. Some were used to create cheap 'dopplegangers' to be handed in, the police at the time not being able to tell good vintage from crappy copy and number stamping being an easy matter. A neighbour was in that milieu. My point is that the authorities are up against a big problem and do well to control it as well as they do but human ingenuity will usually find a way and nothing is as simple as legislators seem to think.
